Building 300 Fire Restoration Project, FAA William J. Hughes Technical Center, Atlantic City International Airport, NJ

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) William J. Hughes Technical Center (WJHTC) is located in Pomona, NJ and is co-located with the Atlantic City International Airport. On 22 June 2012, there was a fire on the rooftop (southeast section) of Building 300, a 1,000,000 square foot multi-story office building. The fire damaged approximately 20,000 square feet of the roof. The 44,000 square foot office areas on the two floors immediately below it was extensively water-damaged and affected by minor fire and extensive smoke and water damage; the areas directly affected are office space and are approximately 22,000 square feet per floor for a total of 44,000 square feet. Due to the extensive fire, water and smoke damage, the entire 1st, 2nd floors and partial penthouse were gutted down to bare concrete slabs.
The concrete slabs had to be cut and removed to install new 8” roof drain lines due to melted roofing material which ran into all underground roof drain lines and hardened. All electrical services to the area and HVAC air handlers had to be removed from the Penthouse.
